Pie Equals

Math can be fun. I just have to keep on reminding myself of that as I enter into exam period.

 Happy Humpday!

A Day At The Races

Back in October, a few friends and I decided to see what this horse racing business was all about, so we headed on down to the Hastings Racetrack. We arrived pretty late and saw just three races but that was okay with us. We had enough time to enjoy some beers, check out the ponies and their very small riders and place a few bets. Mind you, not knowing a thing about odds and how to actually place bets, we just gambled amongst ourselves, wagering quarters and basing our bets on the horse names and their appearances, not to mention the jockeys. My favorite moment of the day was when a little boy on the side shouted out to one of the Spanish jockeys "¿Alejandro, una foto porfavor?" - melted my heart! All in all it was an awesome way to spend a Saturday afternoon and I definitely plan on returning next summer to enjoy all the action under the warm summer sun.

The jockeys are so small!

Checking out the prospects.

Hotline Halloween

Halloween was a while back now, but I wanted to post some photos of all the hilarious costumes that my friends came up with this year. We celebrated Halloween two nights: the Saturday before and then on the 31st. My costume on the Saturday was tragic, I put impossibly little effort in to it and let an extremely inebriated person do my face paint -- big mistake.

Stormy Sunday

The weather today was fierce to say the least. The rain was pouring down and the wind was a howling.  I spent most of the day safe inside and the power went out only briefly. Around 7:30 Trisha rang me up  and invited me to join her and Keir for a sushi dinner followed by storm watching at Ogden Point, an offer I simply couldn't refuse. After smashing some miso soup, sunomono salads, inari, sashimi and rolls we bundled up tight and headed over to the breakwater. The waves were surging and we managed to get sufficiently soaked by the time we walked to the lighthouse and back. I arrived home freezing cold and wet and immediately climbed into a nice hot bath. Storm watching  or storm frolicking might just be my new favorite activity.

Around Here

Since classes began, life as always has been pretty hectic but nonetheless really great. I've visited Vancouver and Edmonton, went to a music festival, have been busy in the kitchen and have been getting back into the usual swing of things. This weekend has been particularly wonderful what with having not much to do but homework, housework and spending time with friends. Here are some photos of what's been making me happy these days. What's been keeping that smile on your face?

Another Summer

This past Summer passed by in what feels like the blink of an eye. It feels like only yesterday I was finishing up final exams and getting excited for all that was to come, Sasquatch, Canada Day, M2 roadtrip, Osheaga, houseboating, the list goes on. Unfortunately with all that Summer fun, the importance of maintaining my blog fell by the way side. A new school year has begun and it's high time that I started writing on here more regularly again. So that is exactly what I plan to do! I have tons of photos and stories of Summer and lots of new fun things to share. So check back and I promise there will be some posts.
